22 Months: Puppet Fingers!

Today, Evelyn is twenty-two months old. Evie is increasingly independent and she loves to make decisions. Whenever Evelyn would like to have a choice, she'll make a request: "which one do you like, Mama?" This means she wants me to ask her which one (food item/ drink/ vitamin) she would like to have. Evelyn is also very into finger puppets, which she calls "puppet fingers." Actual puppets are not necessary for puppet fun in the world of Evelyn; she'll happily use a sock, Mama's wristlet, or a lego.

Evelyn's new interests also extend into the world of construction equipment and big vehicles (buses, tractor trailer trucks, and the like). In the car, just today, Evie exclaimed "mixer, Mama! See? It's a cement mixer!" as a big mixer passed by. She likes to listen for sirens and garbage trucks and it's always exciting to see construction workers and their gear.

Evelyn loves to sing in the car-- this might be because I absolutely cannot drive in total silence and I always sing in the car. She has started to make more requests for specific songs that we have on CD and her current favorites are a few tunes produced by Kindermusik (Little Red Wagon, Turtle Dove, Wheels on the Bus) as well an acoustic version of "Closer to Fine" by the Indigo Girls. Sometimes, though, Evelyn just sings without the stereo system (Itsy Bitsy Spider is a big hit).

At home, Evelyn has been talking a lot about Baby Brother. She kisses my belly and reminds herself that the "little tiny baby" will be here soon. She likes to play "baby." Sometimes the "baby game" features Evelyn as the baby and I am supposed to wrap her up in a blanket and rock her and at other times the game features one of her dolls. It will be fun to see what she thinks of her new brother next month.
